At Dream Adventure Motorcycles, we’re pretty excited about the latest technology to come out of the BMW production lab. It’s a big one for all fans of BMW Motorrad. This innovative security solution was developed through a collaboration between BMW Motorrad and Professor Dr. Dr. Gerhard Lesjöh, who leads the world’s top institute for ophthalmology at the University of Munich. BMW iFace is a cutting-edge security system designed specifically for the popular and highly sought-after Boxer models. This new security system employs a unique combination of facial recognition and eye-tracking technology to help prevent motorcycle theft.
Facial recognition technology is already in use in a variety of devices, from smartphones to security cameras. The BMW iFace takes this technology a step further, integrating it into the motorcycle’s security system. The system captures a precise three-dimensional image of the rider’s face and compares it to the stored data. If the comparison is positive, the motorcycle is unlocked, enabling the rider to start the motorcycle. To ensure functionality in low-light conditions, the system employs infrared scanning, providing an additional layer of security to operate effectively round-the-clock. In addition, the system also uses iris-cornea comparison of the eyes for a more conclusive form of identification.
The eye-tracking technology takes the security system to the next level, making it even more difficult for thieves to steal the motorcycle. The system monitors the rider’s eyes, ensuring that they are focused on the road ahead. If the rider’s gaze strays from the road for an extended period, the system will trigger an alarm and immobilize the motorcycle. This feature is designed to deter potential thieves who may be looking for an opportunity to steal a motorcycle.
In addition to its theft-prevention capabilities, the BMW iFace also includes a feature to assist in locating stolen motorcycles. If a theft attempt occurs, the system triggers communication with the eCall electronic emergency service. The BMW Motorrad Call Centre receives a notification of the attempted theft through a designated code, and the system transmits the scan data (facial or eye scan) along with the current geographic position data to the central database of Federal Police authorities. The database initiates a search for the person involved if it contains corresponding data. Alternatively, the scan data will be saved in the database for possible use in the future if there is no corresponding data material. This feature not only enhances the security of the BMW iFace system but also serves as a valuable aid in recovering stolen motorcycles.
One of the key benefits of the BMW iFace system is its ability to provide a highly secure and convenient experience for motorcycle owners. The system eliminates the need for keys, making it more difficult for thieves to gain access to the motorcycle. It also provides a more streamlined and user-friendly experience for the rider, as they can simply get on the motorcycle and go, without having to worry about keys or other security measures.
In addition to its security features, the BMW iFace system also has other benefits. For example, it can provide valuable data on the rider’s performance and behavior, such as speed, distance, and other metrics. This data can be used to help riders improve their skills and become safer and more confident on the road.
Overall, the BMW iFace represents a significant step forward in motorcycle security and technology. It is an innovative solution to the problem of motorcycle theft and a testament to BMW’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the motorcycle industry. As motorcycle theft continues to be a growing concern, the BMW iFace provides motorcycle owners with a highly secure and convenient solution that is sure to be highly sought-after in the market.
